“This bill is not about dual citizenship, remember that. And it’s not about the diaspora being granted citizenship – the diaspora is not mentioned there. This bill aims at the elimination of the Ukrainian nation and its replacement with an online populace,” warned the leader of the “Batkivshchyna” party to her colleagues.
She emphasized that the bill “is not about legalizing a second, third, or fourth passport that Ukrainians hold, but about the eradication of the Ukrainian nation.”
In Yulia Tymoshenko's view, its adoption would constitute “a crime against the Ukrainian people, against the Ukrainian state,” and every vote in favor would “sanctify the replacement of the Ukrainian people with an online populace.”
The leader of “Batkivshchyna” finds it unacceptable that online, any citizen from 40 countries, as determined by the Cabinet of Ministers, “can declare themselves a citizen of Ukraine simply because they wish to.”
“And within a very short period, discussed over three months, if a citizen of another country online offers themselves as a citizen of Ukraine through outsourcing, meaning practically without entering Ukraine or crossing our border, they will be granted citizenship, the right to vote, the right to receive certain social benefits, the right to purchase land, the right to be Ukrainian, without even having been one for a minute,” explained the essence of the presidential bill Yulia Tymoshenko.
She reminded that no country in the world grants citizenship online, and this initiative has nothing to do with dual citizenship, which exists in 130 countries, as obtaining citizenship there allows the new citizen to retain their passport from the other state where they were previously a citizen.
“Every country sets strict requirements: from 5 to 10 years of residence, knowledge of the language, culture, history, loyalty to the flag, anthem, state, and constitution of other countries, meaning a full-fledged citizen, with everything necessary to live in another state,” Yulia Tymoshenko reminded her colleagues.
The leader of “Batkivshchyna” demands that “special expert departments, special expert teams of the Verkhovna Rada immediately analyze the unconstitutionality of this bill” and called on the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada to give the relevant instructions without delay.
“If such unconstitutional projects are voted on in the hall, and even gain a majority, then this Verkhovna Rada must be dissolved immediately. Therefore, I ask, please give the order. As the Chairman of the Verkhovna Rada, you have the right to do so,” concluded Yulia Tymoshenko.
