The authorities in Finland are investigating an oil tanker that may be linked to the accident involving an underwater electrical cable. This tanker is believed to be part of Russia's shadow fleet.

This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Financial Times.

According to the publication, the Eagle S was halted by Finnish authorities after the underwater electrical cable Estlink 2 was disconnected in the Gulf of Finland. It is known that the tanker is registered in the Cook Islands and is transporting oil from Russia to Egypt. This vessel was spotted near the cable.

As FT reports, this is an old tanker that is part of Russia's shadow fleet and is currently under scrutiny by Finnish investigators. Sources from the publication indicate that it is being examined whether the Eagle S severed three communication cables in the Gulf of Finland.

Subsequently, it was stated that Finland does not rule out the possibility of intentional damage to the underwater power line in the Gulf of Finland. Two vessels were spotted in the area.

On the same day, another damaged underwater communication cable was discovered in the Baltic Sea - between Lithuania and Sweden.
