This information is reported by the State Environmental Inspection in the Donetsk region.
Госэкоинспекция сообщила о критическом состоянии Донецкой области: разрушаются города, промышленные зоны и природные ландшафты.

The State Environmental Inspection in the Donetsk region is facing an extremely difficult situation due to the ongoing semi-scale and intense military actions in the area. Numerous shellings and bombings are causing irreparable damage to the environment. Cities, industrial facilities, and natural landscapes are being destroyed.

The inspection is forced to operate remotely, yet no instance of ecocide goes unnoticed.

As a result, we are conducting assessments of the damage inflicted on the environment due to the armed aggression of the Russian Federation. In 2024, 899 damage assessments have been calculated, totaling 36 billion 730 million 953 thousand UAH.

All natural resources of our State have suffered significant and irreparable losses without exception.

As a consequence of enemy shelling, large-scale fires have been observed in the territories of nature reserves and forests.

Approximately 160 fires have been recorded, representing a massive number of destroyed trees and other flora and fauna. For instance, in the territory of the National Natural Park "Sviatyi Hory," the last fire destroyed over 6,000 hectares of forest with an estimated loss of around 10 million trees. Currently, commissions have been established, and work is underway to assess the damage from these incidents.

Land resources are also suffering irreparable losses from numerous contaminations and littering of land plots. For example, in the Kramatorsk urban territorial community, after a missile strike on the filtration station of KP "KRAMATORSK WATER SUPPLY," an area of 15,590 m² was contaminated with debris - resulting in damage amounting to 858 million UAH. In total, the inspection has calculated 110 assessments for this resource, amounting to approximately 4 billion UAH.

A vast amount of pollutants is entering the atmospheric air due to large-scale fires in industrial facilities, the residential sector, and plant resources. Accordingly, the inspection has conducted 783 assessments concerning air pollution, amounting to over 32 billion UAH.

Substances such as carbon dioxide, sulfur compounds, heavy metals, phenols, and others are being released into the atmosphere.

For instance, a fire in the territory of the State Enterprise "Lyman Forestry" in the Drobyshevske forestry destroyed 1,200 hectares of forest, resulting in losses exceeding 16.6 billion UAH.

Damage is also being inflicted on water supply and drainage systems and communications, which directly threatens the pollution of rivers that serve as water sources for the population, industrial, and communal enterprises.

As a result of the explosion of two Karloivka reservoirs, the damage amounted to over 600 million UAH, while the destruction of a road bridge over the Siverskyi Donets River resulted in damage exceeding 200 million UAH.

The dam of the Kurakhivka reservoir, located in the territory of the Kurakhiv urban territorial community in the village of Stari Terny, Pokrovsk district, Donetsk region, has been destroyed. Due to the damage to the dam, an uncontrolled leak of water from the Kurakhivka reservoir, containing more than 60 million m³ of water, has occurred. Currently, the assessment of damage is in process.

The State Environmental Inspection in the Donetsk region collaborates with law enforcement and judicial authorities.

This year, 17 lawsuits have been filed by the State Environmental Inspection in the Donetsk region against individuals and legal entities for damages inflicted on the environment, amounting to a total of 12 million 718 thousand 928 UAH, with 29 lawsuits satisfied for a total of 5 million 147 thousand 161 UAH.

Currently, there are 42 cases in the courts regarding the enforcement of environmental legislation totaling 25 million UAH.

Inspection staff are constantly engaged in work on commissions to inspect territories and specific sites to assess the inflicted damage at the request of law enforcement agencies.

Inspection employees are making every effort to ensure proper and effective state environmental control under wartime conditions for our collective future victory.
