Four officials from the Dnipro City Council are suspected of embezzling over 10.5 million hryvnias in military procurement. They will face trial.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the press service of the Bureau of Economic Security.
According to the Bureau, detectives have submitted an indictment against four individuals who held leadership positions in the Dnipro City Council.
Law enforcement agencies discovered that the Dnipro City Council allocated funds to support the implementation of a program for assisting the city's territorial defense from 2022 to 2026. The suspects made military purchases at inflated prices, specifically for items such as night vision goggles, thermal imagers, furniture, and generators.
The officials have already been placed under house arrest at night.
"The defendants face imprisonment and prohibition from holding certain positions or engaging in specific activities," emphasized the Bureau.
It is worth noting that last year, a major scandal erupted regarding the procurement of food for Ukrainian soldiers at inflated prices, implicating officials from the Ministry of Defense.
In light of this, Ukraine decided to change the rules governing the procurement of food for Ukrainian soldiers.
Back in January, Defense Minister Rustem Umerov assured that the ministry is actively working on exposing such schemes. Therefore, new arrests are expected.
