The people's deputy of Ukraine has been informed of suspicion regarding treason. This concerns Yevhen Shevchenko.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing its own sources and the press service of GBR.

According to law enforcement, the individual systematically engaged in informational subversive activities in the interests of the aggressor state. The GBR does not disclose the name of the suspect, but sources confirmed to RBK-Ukraine that it is Yevhen Shevchenko.

In particular, the deputy disseminated numerous propaganda falsehoods about events in Ukraine and its foreign policy, and in October-November 2024, he spread distorted information about the command of the Ukrainian Defense Forces and sentiments among Ukrainians.

The GBR noted that to promote Kremlin narratives, the parliamentarian actively used his own channels on YouTube and Telegram, as well as broadcasts on Ukrainian and enemy media outlets.

Additionally, investigators established that between 2020 and 2023, the deputy repeatedly visited Belarus, where he communicated with the leadership of that state and established "schemes" for purchasing electricity and ammonium fertilizers at reduced prices for companies under his control.

Subsequently, as law enforcement explained, his affiliated commercial entities sold these resources at artificially inflated prices for personal gain. It is reported that for this transaction, the deputy involved front persons, including non-residents of the companies he controlled.

Thus, based on the evidence obtained, the elected official has been informed of suspicion under part 1 of article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (treason). A decision is being made regarding the imposition of a preventive measure.

The investigation is ongoing. If guilt is proven, the deputy faces 15 years of imprisonment with property confiscation.

Who is Yevhen Shevchenko

Yevhen Shevchenko was born on May 4, 1972, in Melitopol. He graduated from the Classical Private University (Zaporizhzhia) with a degree in "lawyer."

He is an entrepreneur. Previously, he worked as an electrician in a collective farm. He held managerial positions in companies such as "Eurocape New Energy," "ECE Projektmanagement G.m.b.H," "Agrostal," and "Tsvetmet."

In 2019, he was elected to the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation from "Servant of the People." However, he was later expelled from the party. According to the "Chesno" movement, Shevchenko was a trusted person for then-presidential candidate Volodymyr Zelensky during the 2019 elections.

Additionally, according to "Chesno" analytics, he was listed among the absentees in the Verkhovna Rada of the 9th convocation.

What is known about scandals involving him

Shevchenko is known for his pro-Russian stance even before the large-scale Russian invasion and his negative attitude towards the Revolution of Dignity. He has frequently appeared on the banned "112 Ukraine" channel and participated in live broadcasts on Russian propaganda channels.

In 2020, he congratulated Belarusian dictator Alexander Lukashenko on his re-election. The deputy himself previously claimed to be an "intelligence agent." At the same time, the head of the GUR MO, Kyrylo Budanov confirmed that Shevchenko indeed assisted in contacts with Lukashenko.

However, recently a scandal erupted due to Shevchenko's statements. In his Telegram message, he called on the President of Ukraine to negotiate with the Russian Federation. The deputy also claimed that he allegedly wrote a letter to Donald Trump and JD Vance "to assist in ending authoritarianism and dictatorship in Ukraine's political life."

In turn, the head of the President's Office, Andriy Yermak, stated that some people's deputies have "gotten confused" regarding national security, national interests, and the future of Ukraine.

Moreover, recently in a comment to RBK-Ukraine, the GUR MO reported that currently, deputy Shevchenko has no connection to any intelligence structure.
