Border guards rescued five draft evaders from the Tisza River as they attempted to cross in a two-person boat.
The border guards of the Mukachevo squad detained five men who attempted to illegally enter Hungary via the Tisza River, paying intermediaries between $8,000 and $11,000 for this. This was reported by the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine, as noted by UNN.
Details
It is reported that the border guards assisted the men in getting out of the water. They were detained and taken to a facility where they were able to warm up and dry their clothes. The violators turned out to be residents of Mykolaiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Cherkasy, and Zakarpattia regions.
During the investigation, the offenders revealed that each of them had paid unknown individuals between $8,000 and $11,000 for assistance in illegally crossing the border.
The smugglers assured the men that this would be a safe way, and after receiving the full amount, they informed them that they would have to swim across the Tisza. Subsequently, an unknown person brought a two-seat inflatable boat and pointed out which direction the river was located.
Protocols have been drawn up against the detainees for administrative offenses under Article 204-1 of the Code of Ukraine on Administrative Offenses, "Illegal crossing or attempted illegal crossing of the state border of Ukraine."
Currently, the circle of individuals involved in organizing the illegal journey of the men is being established.
