The commander of the 211th pontoon-bridge brigade of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, Oleg Poberezhnyuk, has been issued a new suspicion. He was detained and taken to Kyiv.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the Office of the Prosecutor General and DBR.
Law enforcement officials have charged the commander of the 211th brigade with inaction by military authority, committed under martial law or in a combat situation (part 4, article 426 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine).
According to the investigation, the brigade commander failed to respond to instances of inhumane treatment and torture of his subordinates. From February to July 2024, he was aware that a subordinate platoon commander was abusing his powers to mistreat enlisted soldiers. However, the brigade commander did not initiate any action to hold the officer accountable.
Law enforcement confirmed that searches were conducted at the brigade commander's residence.
The DBR notes that Poberezhnyuk has now been detained and brought to Kyiv. A decision is being made regarding the measure of restraint for him.
