Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico stated that there was an attempt on his life for the second time. This incident occurred during his visit to the city of Dukla.
As reported by RBK-Ukraine, he shared this information in an interview with the publication Standard.
Fico recalled that he traveled there on October 6 to commemorate the anniversary of the Carpathian-Dukla operation in World War II. Several government members and parliament deputies attended the celebrations, including Slovak President Peter Pellegrini.
"We apprehended a very aggressive individual who hates me for my stance on Ukraine. He was armed, but fortunately, he did not enter the area where we, the politicians, were gathered, and instead went towards the crowd. There, he passed through a metal detector, which revealed that he had a fully loaded pistol," Fico explained.
He also believes that during the assassination attempt that took place in May of this year in the city of Handlová, he was "very lucky."
On May 16, the Slovak government held an off-site meeting. After its conclusion, during an address to the citizens, an unknown assailant shot at Fico several times, seriously injuring the politician.
The Prime Minister was immediately hospitalized and underwent surgery, but his condition remained critical for a prolonged period, and the doctors' prognosis was grim. However, on May 31, he was transferred from the hospital in Banská Bystrica to Bratislava for rehabilitation.
The perpetrator who fired the shots was apprehended at the scene. It turned out to be a 71-year-old writer.
