The court has allowed Finland to detain a tanker from Russia's "shadow fleet," which damaged cables in the Baltic Sea. The seized vessel is suspected of being involved in the incident affecting an energy cable and four communication cables.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Bloomberg.
The tanker Eagle S was detained at the end of December 2024. During the investigation of the seabed, numerous traces were found indicating that the vessel dragged its anchor during the incident.
Today, the Helsinki District Court rejected a motion from the shipping company Caravella LLC from the United Arab Emirates to lift the detention of the tanker, according to an electronic response to inquiries.
In particular, the vessel, which sails under the flag of the Cook Islands, has been identified as part of the so-called "shadow fleet," transporting Russian petroleum products.
The ship was detained at a port in southern Finland, and it is suspected of committing serious crimes, particularly causing significant property damage and interfering with communication systems.
It was recently revealed that underwater cables between Finland and Estonia were damaged in the Baltic Sea. Following this, Finland detained the Eagle S, likely a tanker from Russia's "shadow fleet," which was passing through the area where the cable break occurred.
Later, we reported that Finland suspects seven crew members of the vessel of vandalism under aggravating circumstances. They have been banned from leaving the country.
