In Kovel, Volyn region, today, November 24, a conflict involving a group of citizens and patrol police escalated into a brawl, resulting in the arrest of the offenders. An inspector had to fire a warning shot.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine referencing the Patrol Police of Volyn region on Facebook.
According to the police, on Sunday around 3:00 PM, patrol officers stopped a Jeep for violating traffic rules.
It was noted that while the inspectors were preparing administrative materials, a passerby "stole the keys from the patrol car."
"The police chased the man. While interacting with the patrol officer, he behaved extremely aggressively and created a conflict, prompting the inspectors to attempt to detain the assailant. At that moment, several bystanders intervened in the altercation," the police explained.
Following this, one of the officers fired a warning shot into the air to signal for help and call in backup.
"Taking advantage of the chaos, the participants in the brawl got into a Volkswagen and fled the scene. Soon, near a gas station, patrol officers stopped the mentioned vehicle and apprehended the offenders," the patrol police reported.
A video recorded by the patrol officers' body camera regarding the events during this incident was also released.
The press service of the Patrol Police of Volyn region added that a detective and operational group arrived at the scene.
"Two assailants were detained under Article 208 of the Criminal Procedure Code. Information has been entered into the Unified Register of Pre-Trial Investigations regarding Part 2 of Article 345 (Threat or violence against a law enforcement officer) of the Criminal Code of Ukraine," the law enforcement agency stated.
Investigative actions are ongoing.
Earlier, it was reported that on November 12, gunfire occurred at a cafe in Sofiivska Borshchahivka near Kyiv, resulting in an injury to a police officer.
In mid-September, it was revealed that in Khmelnytskyi region, a man opened fire on police officers with an assault rifle, firing 60 rounds at them. Subsequently, law enforcement found the assailant, and the court took him into custody.
