German chancellor candidate Merz suggests reducing aid for Ukrainian refugees in Germany.

Friedrich Merz advocates for reducing social benefits for Ukrainian refugees in Germany. Instead, he proposes granting them immediate access to employment without the requirement to learn the language first.
Кандидат в канцлеры ФРГ Мерц предложил сократить помощь украинским беженцам в Германии.

Ukrainians fleeing the war and arriving in Germany should not receive "assistance for citizens," but rather a more modest amount provided under a different category. This was stated by the candidate for Chancellor of Germany, Friedrich Merz, in an interview with the Rheinische Post, as reported by UNN.

Details

It is noted that he made this statement while criticizing the current German government, which, in Merz's view, is spending budgetary funds too lavishly.

In particular, the politician labeled "assistance for citizens" as "the largest, literally explosive item of expenditure" in the German budget, which is not exclusively allocated to Ukrainians.

The politician criticized the current system where a foreigner must first learn the German language in courses before being allowed to work. According to him, it is much easier to learn the language on the job than in courses, which are also insufficient for everyone.

The candidate for Chancellor of Germany promised that if his opposition Christian Democratic Union wins the elections, assistance to Ukrainians in Germany would be replaced with a more modest form, but they would immediately be granted the right to work.

Recall

German Chancellor Olaf Scholz stated the need to promote the employment of Ukrainian refugees. Zelensky plans to establish an institution in Germany and Poland to support Ukrainians in finding employment or returning home.
