"Unjustified 'combat pay' was awarded. The military unit commander has been informed of the suspicion."

The commander of one of the military units in the Cherkasy region has been notified of suspicion due to the unwarranted allocation of combat bonuses to nearly a hundred soldiers.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing the State Bureau of Investigation (SBI).

What Happened

"SBI employees reported suspicion against the commander of a military unit from the Cherkasy region. He allowed unwarranted payments of nearly 6 million hryvnias in bonuses to 91 servicemen who did not participate in combat operations," the SBI writes.

It is noted that in June 2023, the suspect was negligent in his duties and failed to verify the grounds for the allocation of combat bonuses. He issued bonuses totaling over 5.9 million hryvnias to subordinates who did not participate in combat operations.

What’s at Stake

The commander of the military unit has been notified of suspicion under Part 4 of Article 425 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine – negligence in service that led to serious consequences.

He faces up to eight years in prison.

"Actions are being taken to recover the damage caused to the state. The suspect has been served a petition for the selection of a preventive measure in the form of personal obligation," the SBI writes.

Recall that RBK-Ukraine previously reported that the SBI recently exposed a brigade commander from one of the territorial defense brigades who organized inflated payments for his wife for participation in combat operations.
