As a result of an attack by an enemy drone on February 14, some equipment in the new safe confinement at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP) remains without power.
This was reported by RBC-Ukraine citing the head of the State Nuclear Regulatory Inspectorate, Oleg Korikov, during a briefing.
"There are issues with power supply as emergency rescue operations are underway, and part of the equipment is de-energized due to the use of water," Korikov explained.
According to him, at ChNPP:
At the same time, the radiation background remains within the limits that were present before the attack.
On February 14, Russia launched a drone strike on the shelter of ChNPP. The drone was equipped with an explosive warhead and was flying at an altitude of 85 meters, which prevented it from being detected by radars.
As reported by the head of the State Agency of Ukraine for the Management of the Exclusion Zone (GAZOS), Grigory Ishchenko, the consequences of the attack could have been catastrophic if the drone had deviated 15 meters from the point of impact.
Meanwhile, GAZOS stated that as of this morning, fire-fighting operations at ChNPP have been suspended. Monitoring of the situation continues using a drone.
