A drone struck and severely damaged an official vehicle of the International Atomic Energy Agency while en route to the temporarily occupied Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant.

This was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing the press service of the IAEA.

According to the agency, the drone hit and significantly damaged the IAEA's vehicle on the road to Ukraine's Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant.

IAEA Director General Rafael Grossi condemned this incident as an "unacceptable" attack on Agency staff who are working to prevent a nuclear accident during the military conflict.

It is worth noting that President Volodymyr Zelensky also mentioned the incident involving the IAEA vehicle during a meeting with Iratxu Peres Garcia, the chair of the Socialists and Democrats group in the European Parliament.

However, he did not provide details regarding whether there were any casualties as a result of the attack.

Zelensky reacted to the attack on the IAEA representatives' vehicle via Telegram.

"On the road in the Zaporizhzhya region—where Russia continues to illegally hold the nuclear power plant it seized—a Russian FPV drone attacked the IAEA convoy, which is tasked with ensuring nuclear safety worldwide," he wrote.

According to him, the strike was directed at one of the vehicles in the convoy. This time, there were no casualties or injuries.

Zelensky believes that this attack demonstrated Russia's attitude towards everything related to international law and safety.

"The Russians could not have been unaware of their target. They knew exactly what they were doing and acted deliberately. This attack requires a clear and decisive response from both the IAEA and other international partners. Silence or inaction will only encourage further crimes," the president wrote.

Situation at the Zaporizhzhya NPP

It is important to remind that the Zaporizhzhya Nuclear Power Plant is the largest NPP in Ukraine and Europe. The Russians have occupied the ZNPP since March 4, 2022. They have mined part of the station's territory and stationed their military there.

Additionally, the occupiers have repeatedly carried out provocations on the territory of the ZNPP. The plant has been on the brink of blackout multiple times.

In particular, on the night of Saturday, November 30, an electricity transmission line was damaged due to enemy shelling, which supplies power to the nuclear plant. This incident at the ZNPP occurred for the third time in a month, creating a threat to radiation safety.
