As of 7 AM on February 17, firefighting efforts at the Chernobyl Nuclear Power Plant (ChNPP) have been suspended. The situation is being monitored using a drone.
This information was reported by RBK-Ukraine, citing the Facebook page of the State Agency of Ukraine for the Management of the Exclusion Zone (SAUMZ).
It is noted that there are no visible smoldering hotspots in the membrane.
Currently, six workers and two pieces of equipment from the State Emergency Service (SES) are involved in the efforts.
No deterioration in the radiation situation at the industrial site or at the plant in general has been recorded, and no release of radioactive materials beyond established limits has been detected.
Radiation background data in Ukraine can be found via this link to the "Eco Threat" resource of the Ministry of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources of Ukraine.
On February 14, Russian terrorists launched a drone strike on the ChNPP shelter. The drone was equipped with an explosive warhead and flew at an altitude of 85 meters, which is why it was not detected by radar.
As stated by the head of SAUMZ, Grigory Ishchenko, the consequences of the attack could have been catastrophic had it hit just 15 meters away from the target area.
Additionally, there was a possibility of radioactive substance leakage at ChNPP.
