Рютте о падении режима Асада: это радостный момент, но также несет неопределенность для сирийского народа.

The overthrow of dictator Bashar al-Assad's regime marks a moment of joy for Syria. However, it also represents a period of uncertainty for the locals and the entire region.

This was stated by NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte, as reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Sky News.

According to him, Russia and Iran must share responsibility for the crimes committed against the Syrian people by Assad's regime.

He noted that these two countries were the "main sponsors" of Assad's regime. Yet, despite this, both Moscow and Tehran have proven to be "unreliable partners who abandoned Assad when he ceased to be useful to them."

Rutte also expressed hope for a peaceful transfer of power and an inclusive political process led by the Syrians.

"We hope for a peaceful transfer of power and an inclusive political process led by the Syrians. We will closely monitor how the rebel leaders behave during this transition," he stated.

In the Secretary General's opinion, the new leaders of Syria should uphold the rule of law, protect the civilian population, and respect religious minorities.

The Overthrow of Bashar al-Assad's Regime

In November, intense fighting erupted in Syria between the Islamist group "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham," the Syrian National Army units, and the forces of dictator Bashar al-Assad, who was supported by Russia and Iran. By December 1, the rebels captured Aleppo, followed by Hama.

It is known that the dictator is already in Moscow.

Former Prime Minister of Syria Riyad Hijab may lead the country's transitional government. This way, the United States "will not have to deal" with the military emir of "Hayat Tahrir al-Sham," Mohamed al-Jolani.
