Ukrainian artillerymen have set a world record for the range of conventional field artillery. They struck a target at a distance of 70 km.
This was reported by RBK-Ukraine citing Defence24.
The publication released an article addressing the integration of Polish self-propelled howitzers (SPH) Krab with the precision-guided Vulcano GLR projectile. It is in this article that the Ukrainian military is mentioned.
It is noted that Ukrainian artillerymen fighting on the Polish SPH Krab "were supposed to hit a target at a distance of 70 km." Polish analysts believe this indicates that the Polish SPHs operating in Ukraine are already capable of using Vulcano GLR projectiles.
However, the article does not specify the outcome of the 70 km shooting. It is also unclear when and where this incident took place.
Nonetheless, the portal Defense Express highlighted that achieving a firing range of 70 km with a conventional 155-mm gun is indeed a record. At least, this holds true when considering only real combat operations, rather than firing on test ranges.
They also noted that the integration of Vulcano GLR has already occurred for the K9 self-propelled artillery systems, which represents significant progress for Polish armament.
The Krab self-propelled howitzer (SPH) is a modern Polish artillery system used by the Armed Forces of Ukraine in their fight against Russian aggression. It is equipped with a 155 mm gun compatible with NATO standards, allowing for a range of up to 40 km with standard shells and up to 54 km with actively-reactive munitions. The Krab is based on the chassis of the South Korean K9 Thunder SPH, combining mobility reliability with striking power.
The Krab features a high level of automation in fire control systems, enabling rapid targeting and firing with minimal preparation. It can deliver intense fire, achieving up to 6 rounds per minute. As a result, the SPH has become a crucial element in the counter-battery warfare of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, effectively destroying enemy artillery and critical enemy assets.
It is worth reminding that earlier, the airborne assault troops demonstrated how Ukrainian defenders trapped kafirs using the Krab SPH.
We also reported that a hidden workshop was set up in Poland for the repair of Krab SPHs.
